it never failed to amaze the woman how drastically the land could change. her origins lay in the north, nestled within the monstrous mountain range. the journey south took her from ice fields and endless precipices to choked black forests, beryl expanses and crystalline lakes. and now, after two years, her yellow paws touched desert once again.
the differences held similarities within them, a baffling mixture of new and old stimulus that enraptured her and grabbed hold of her heart. she'd heard, through her wandering, that there was a pack that called this harsh environment home. a pack that she wanted to call home.
after all, adventure wasn't all directionless traipsing, and knowledge didn't stem from sight alone. it was time she put a end to her fickle persona and crossed over to the other side of life. her goal was decided, and determination filled those glade eyes with light as steady strides brought her closer and closer to the stench of skeletos.
she would join this pack, and she would crack open the tome of knowledge it offered her.

Hot, arid plains stretching for miles only dotted by foliage that miraculously survived the shortage of water. However, deeper into the territory, Skeletos was an oasis for the inhabitants of the pack. A river from the mountain cut through the dry ground in a jagged line. It provided the necessary amount of refreshment to the wolves of Skeletos. At the helm of the ancient empire, Dracul reigned supreme. His word was ultimate law.
He was not without duties. His title required him to see to the various outsiders seeking entrance. Dracul would judge them and then allow them to either leave peacefully or assimilate. On occasion violence force was required to remove unwanted strangers from the border. Normally the Praetorian Guard accompanied him or at least a sentinel would be present. But today he decided that it would be in his best interest to appear active in his direct confrontations with loners and visitors. Perhaps it would have been wise to bring a bodyguard. But it was too late and he was already beyond the luxury of his sanctum. It wasn’t like he couldn’t defend himself. He was quite skilled in the arts of war and doing battle.
The Imperator strode forth like a man on a mission. His posture was typical of an alpha. Tall. Frank. Authoritarian. He couldn’t hide the fact that he walked and talked like someone of power. So generally he was curt with direct inquires about his rank when conversing with a stranger. Today was no different than any other. He was patrolling the border when he spotted an interloper and possible recruit. Dracul approached with confidence but maintained a level of heightened awareness of his surroundings.
“M’dear you have overstepped the border into pack territory, namely that of Skeletos. What brings you here?”

promptly, she was received. it was a good feeling, not to be left waiting. as the gatekeeper approached her, she took in everything appearances can tell a wolf. most notably of all, he was young. half her age even, and here she'd been thinking herself spry. it was curious, but not necessarily a significant matter. with a history such as skeletos had, it was certain this leader was more than capable despite his age.
"i seek membership," she informed him. her gaze matched his, posture kept assured but respectful enough.
"i am anneliese. for the past two years i have taken contracts from different packs as an assassin of outlaws; meaning i am well trained in silent killing and otherwise holding my own. i am also versed in natural remedies and poisons.
this desert reminds me of home, and your pack's rich history intrigues me. i wish to swear allegiance to you and your people so that i may experience pack life."

That’s a very good sign.” He mused thoughtfully. Dracul eyed her, seeing if she was the “real deal” or not. Many times he had seen those whose skills with words outdid any physical skill they claimed to have. More often than not it was fairly easy to test whether or not they were genuine. It wasn’t hard. There was no rigorous test that required the individual to run around like a wild banshee. It was a simple system of questions. “Well, Anneliese, I’m Dracul. Obviously you carry yourself with competence. How do you feel about being a public servant?”

anneliese had no response to his remarks, knowing they were not meant for conversation. she stayed silent under his scrutiny, at ease in faith that she would not fall short of everything she promised. and while she tried always not to be overconfident, she had little doubts about gaining acceptance into the pack at this point.
he could assign her any job, she wouldn't care, so long as it meant she could interact with the rest of the pack.
"i would be honored to fit in any niche you give me," she affirmed. public servant? it sounded like a good fit.

I’m Dracul.” His words weren’t minced or prettied with flowery language. As always he introduced himself then made his exit. With little ruckus, he slipped back into the territory and vanished from sight. Once again he had done his job with no difficulty. No one died so that was a plus. Time would tell if Anneliese would be a worthwhile investment.
